Spotlight Prize Winners 2006

SPOTLIGHT AWARDS ANNUAL £1250 PRIZES
TO OUTSTANDING DRAMA GRADUATES

Spotlight has awarded its annual prizes of £1250 each to the Conference of Drama Schools’ most talented students.

The awards were announced on Sunday 28th May at the Spotlight / CDS Graduation Party at London’s Café de Paris, in the presence of over 1000 drama students, agents and casting directors.

Each year, The Spotlight Prize helps to launch the careers of four outstanding drama graduates, offering financial support and raising their profile within the entertainment industry. The prizes are awarded as part of Spotlight’s ongoing partnership with the Conference of Drama Schools (CDS).

Every Principal from a CDS school nominates their most talented male and female final-year students for entry into the competition. From the finalists, four winners (two male, two female) are chosen to receive a prize of £1250 each, with which to launch their acting careers. Every one of the 44 nominees also receives a free entry into Spotlight and a free ticket to the annual Spotlight / CDS graduation party.

This year’s winners of The Spotlight Prize are:

Frances Ashman

(Guildhall School of Music and Drama)

Sam Grimwood

(Manchester Metropolitan University)

Danny Seldon

(LAMDA)

Jennifer Shakesby

(Oxford School of Drama)

Since previous Spotlight Prize winners have included Judi Dench, Robert Lindsay and Zoë Wanamaker, these new actors are definitely the faces to watch in 2006!

Ben Seale, The Spotlight
“Many congratulations to the four winners. We hope The Spotlight Prize gives a great boost to their careers: we will be watching their progress with interest. Standards at all of the CDS drama schools are extremely high, so each of the 44 finalists should be highly commended and we look forward to offering them their free year in Spotlight.”

George Kitson, President of the CDS
“We are most grateful to Spotlight for the generous sponsorship of these prizes. The CDS comprises Britain's top 22 drama schools and was developed to encourage the highest standards in training for actors and stage managers, as well as hosting a variety of associated training in related fields. We know that every student has worked very hard to be nominated for The Spotlight Prize and should be extremely proud of their achievements.”

Danny Seldon, Spotlight Prize Winner
“The graduation party was excellent fun and a fantastic opportunity to mix with my fellow students that I hope to work with in the future.  It was great to see faces I had seen before and hope to see again.  The venue was brilliant for the occasion.  I am so grateful for this award!”

Frances Ashman, Spotlight Prize Winner
“I feel so lucky to have won this prize!  As a postgrad student it is really hard to fund yourself financially, this is going to help me enormously!  I never thought that I would have won.  I’ve had an excellent night and am so pleased with the award.  Thank you!”
